Is it possible to set the path for the ldb file ?
"stuff" is a shared directory with only "read" permission to group everyone. NTFS permissions are set to "change" for the directory called "stuff" for everyone. My question is, do share permissions override NTFS permissions? What would be the effective rights now for group everyone, read or change?

Samba and Active Directory Permissions RESOLUTION
2/ Did you mean to set up a seperate upload 'folder' [directory'] which I then change the permissions on the server [eg not via FP Ext Admin area] Thanks Steve Of course, you can create a sub-directory to put the files in and only give the anonymous user read/write/delete access for that particular directory.

Can't remove "read-only" on a directory. Driving me nuts!
There is no directory entry for the mount point, therefore there are no applicable permissions. There are permissions, but the setattr permissions checks are... extremely peculiar. See, eg fat/inode.c:fat_notify_change(). (After all, the only permission that a FAT file fundamentally has is one read-only bit.

Write Attributes Allows or denies changing the attributes of a file or folder, such as read-only or hidden. Attributes are defined by NTFS. I only want them to be able to download a specific file from the directory when I tell them what the file name is... I have tried setting NTFS permissions.

Changing Permissions on NTFS Drive
If you leave it (the test3 folder) alone and do NOT change permissions on it, (such as removing it from the full controll or putting it in the read only) then when you click the finish button, all is well and the folder will retain any settings that you made through the explorer. However, if you do make changes to

I need a script to search for that folder inside each users home directory and change the permissions to 'read, list folder contents' Can this be done? You write that you wish to apply "read-only" permissions to the "examples" folder but you never say WHO is supposed to have this read-only right.

Turn Read-Only flag off on Win files?

Designating partitions and splitting up directories
Also root cannot change permissions for this drive. I assume this is because it's not possible to write to the drive so I've tried changing the permissions for the 'c' directory. Trouble is that it won't let me do that either. Permissions are only used by the linux filesystems, not the M$ ones.

A file that is only on one directory "belongs to" that directory. So write permission to the directory is all that is needed. What you are arguing is essentially it for a write (or a read). It is a metadata operation that doesn't conceptually change the data in any way, shape or form - it just makes it go away.

/tmp directory deletion and permission
The question is: which permissions I must give to WINNT directory and all sub-directories? Be sure and check both the "change permissions
